Connoisseurs Scotland Celebrates 25 Years Representing Scotland’s Finest Properties

From Castles to Golf Resorts to City-Center Hotels, Connoisseurs Scotland Represents Country’s Best

Edinburgh, Scotland (March, 2017) – Connoisseurs Scotland, a unique collection of 29 luxury and boutique hotels and resorts located throughout Scotland, celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2017. Members of Connoisseurs Scotland include five of the world's finest golf venues; three castles; a range of world-class spas; an all-suite hotel; the ultimate luxury train, Belmond Royal Scotsman; and the only cruise ship in the world with a Royal Warrant from HM The Queen, Hebridean Princess. A complete list of members and partners can be found at www.luxuryscotland.co.uk.

Connoisseurs Scotland dates back to the early 1990s, when founder and CEO Jeremy Hawkings saw an opportunity for several like-minded properties to join forces and focus on promoting Scotland as a luxury destination to the US audience, a demographic that was showing an increased interest in the country. “A number of properties were marketing themselves to the US individually, and it became clear to me that by working together, we could assemble a much stronger and more cohesive message about Scotland’s luxury market to take to US travelers.” Connoisseurs Scotland was born in 1992 with just a handful of properties—seven to be exact.

“When we started we only had seven hotels, not enough for us to represent all of Scotland. Now we have 29, and we’re proud to be able to say that our properties cover most of the country, from the Highlands and Outer Hebrides to the Scottish Borders and everything in between,” says Hawkings. “It’s never been our goal to grow too quickly, or to have 50 members, because there are not 50 truly luxury hotels in Scotland. Our goal is to represent the best Scotland has to offer.”

Over the past 25 years, Hawkings has seen some changes in travel trends, and he’s quick to embrace the desire of US travelers. “Food has become a big draw for travelers over the last several years. People will go to a hotel just because of the food,” he says.  It doesn’t hurt that five Connoisseurs Scotland members boast Michelin-starred restaurants, including Gleneagles, which has the only two Michelin-starred restaurants in Scotland. “The other change we’ve seen has been the desire to take part in a learning experience while traveling, and many of these revolve around culinary, like blending your own scotch or even cooking with a Michelin starred chef.”

In addition to 29 member hotels, Connoisseurs Scotland also boasts partner businesses like the five-star Little’s Chauffer Drive, Dunnet Bay Distillers producing handcrafter Scottish gin and vodka, and the Royal Yacht Britannia, home to the Royal Family for more than 40 years.

Members of Connoisseurs Scotland include five of the world's finest golf venues, three castles, one of which was voted to be the best hotel in Europe; city-center properties; country house hotels; exclusive-use properties; a range of world-class spas; an all-suite hotel; the ultimate luxury train, Belmond Royal Scotsman; and the only cruise ship in the world with a Royal Warrant from HM The Queen, Hebridean Princess. Five members boast Michelin-starred restaurants, including Gleneagles, which has the only two Michelin-starred restaurants in Scotland. Information about Connoisseurs Scotland, its members, partners and special offers can be found at www.luxuryscotland.co.uk.
