GRANDTRAVEL, THE COMPANY THAT BONDS THE GENERATIONS

THROUGH TRAVEL, JOINS AARP’S FAMILY OF PREFERRED PROVIDERS

Recognized as one of a handful of travel companies to meet AARP stringent standards

Washington, DC, August 2008 – Grandtravel has fostered the bond between grandparents and grandchildren since its founding 22 years ago by combining the enriching experience of travel with the lifelong building block of education through hands-on adventures.  AARP has spent the past 50 years dedicated to improving the quality of life for people as they age, both advocating for the group and offering benefits and opportunities not easily obtained by the individual.  So it should come as no surprise that Grandtravel has been welcomed into AARP’s family of preferred providers, joining only a handful of other travel companies able to meet AARP’s stringent standards for quality and service.  This new agreement offers members the peace of mind they need when traveling with their most valuable asset, their grandchild, as well as a $200 per member discount on Grandtravel’s rates on all of their deluxe offerings, which for 2009 include Alaska, Italy, London/Paris, New Zealand and Washington/Williamsburg.

“We all recognize that the quality of our lives is enriched when we are able to share it with loved ones,” states Helena Koenig, founder and grandmother.  “So Grandtravel is proud to have found its "significant other" with whom we can now make it easier for greater numbers of grandparents and grandchildren to enjoy the pleasures of exploring new places together as they expand the cultural enrichment of their lives.”

Grandtravel programs, developed by a team of teachers, psychologists, leisure counselors and educators, give special attention to creative activities, access to experiences not available to individual travelers or families, historical sites and natural attractions.  Grandtravel was bought several years ago by Academic Travel Abroad, a leader in the “educational travel programs” arena.
