A WEEK OF CHEESE AND WINE TAKE CENTER STAGE ON NEW TUSCAN WAY TOUR; PRIVATE VISITS TO REGIONS' MOST NOTABLE CHEESE PRODUCERS AND VINEYARDS Coconut Grove, FL, July 2008 -- Tuscan Way, a specialized provider of cooking vacations and custom tours to Italian destinations, has introduced a new week-long “Cheese & Wines of Tuscany” tour – introducing and educating its guests on some of Tuscany’s finest cheeses and wines. Guests can choose to stay at three of the company’s eight locations - Casa Innocenti, Villa Poggiarello or Villa Gaia. Prices range from €2,100 ($3,327*) to €2,275 ($3,604*) per person, double, depending on location, and departures are offered throughout 2009. Prices are fixed in U.S. dollars at the time of the booking. Participants will learn about Pecorino di Pienza – In Pienza, and the delicate raviggiolo in Siena; coupled with private tastings of Morellino and Brunello wines at local vineyards. What makes this tour so unusual is the focus on the guest and the level of expertise offered them due to the relationships built over the years between Tuscan Way and the vineyards and cheese producers. Led by master chef and sommelier-in-training, Romeo Innocenti, these intimate tours (no more than 12 guests) visit cheese makers and wine producers all over the region. Cheese highlights include tours of Caseificio il Fiorino in Roccalbegna, a family-run cheese factory that produces some of the area’s best pecorino – Il Rosso, Classico and Stravecchio; Caseficio Grossetano in Grosseto, known for its Marzolino Rosso, a soft, sweet cheese; and Caseificio di Sorano, with its wide array of offerings and based in the medieval town of Sorano. Vineyard visits and wine tastings include the Brunello wines of Montalcino, and the well regarded Morellino di Scansano. Of course, wine and cheese is not the only focus of the tour – meals are just as important on any Tuscany trip and Tuscan Way makes no exceptions in finding wonderful possibilities – from lunches in the seaside village of Castiglione della Pescaia with its welcoming beaches, and trattorias in Roccalbegna and Sorano; to dinners at Ristorante del Falco or Latte di Luna in Pienza, both well known for the homemade pastas and seasonal meats. One of the most difficult decisions facing prospective guests is which property to book. Villa Gaia is a charming country estate outside the town of Seggiano while Villa Poggiarello is an 18-century villa in the 1,000-year-old village of Roccastrada, 34 miles south of Siena, and surrounded by vineyards, rolling hills, medieval villages and natural parks. Casa Innocenti is the picturesque five-story medieval home of the chef and company patriarch, Carlo Innocenti, in the small village of Arcidosso. The package includes six nights' accommodations, daily excursions with numerous cheese and wine tastings, all meals, and transportation throughout, including airport transfers. Single supplement ranges from $396 to $555.
